Dear Brother Riley,

We are disappointed to hear that your contract negotiations have not yet resulted in a Collective Labour Agreement between yourselves and the Port of Saint John Employers Association. That is especially disappointing when we consider the preference that you have always put forth of settling issues at the bargaining table instead of through the strike/lockout mechanisms.

I.L.A. Local 273 has a long history of supporting unions around the world when they have become embroiled in unavoidable disputes and that support has always been appreciated. If you now need our support or support of others in our international network, please do not hesitate to ask for it. We stand in solidarity with I.L.A. Local 273.

It is also our understanding that, since your Conciliation Commissioner has issued his report, a strike lockout is now possible by one party or the other simply giving seventy-two hours notice. Should that notice be giving by either yourselves or your employers, please contact us immediately.

In Solidarity,
