INTERNATIONAL BROTHERHOOD
Of
BOILMAKERS - IRON SHIPBUILDERS
SAINT JOHN - NEW BRUNSWICK
Alexander C. Mac Donald
International Vice-President

November 18, 2002

Mr. Patrick Riley
Secretary Treasurer/Business Agent, Local 273
International Longshoremen’s Association
20 Church Avenue
Saint John, New Brunswick
E2M 4P4

Dear Sir and Brother,

While being a trade unionist myself for over thirty years; as a member, Business Manager and Secretary-Treasurer of a Local and now the International Vice-President for the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers; my experience helps me to relate to the problem Local #273 is currently encountering. While I have relied on, and believe in, the bargaining process, the majority of the time I have found that my counterparts on the other side of the table believe in the same system as well. But, I have also encountered, on the odd occasion, where bargaining in bad faith or alternative motives are involved, the process does reach an impasse.

As the representative for Boilermakers from Ontario to Newfoundland, and in particular in the Province of New Brunswick, you can convey to your membership and the general public that the International Brotherhood of Boilermakers fully support your endeavour at the bargaining table and we will closely monitor the proceedings.

Brother Riley, if you see the need, I would be more than willing to contact the President of the New Brunswick Building Trades Council to make them aware of your circumstances and enrol the support of thousands of New Brunswick Building Trades members. Help forthcoming, in any fashion, is just a phone call away.

Trusting the process will come to a fair and equitable settlement and with very best regards, I remain,

Cordially and fraternally yours,

ALEXANDER C. MACDONALD
International Vice-President
