Letters of Support
THE MARITIME UNION OF AUSTRALIA
National Office
Paddy Crumlin
National Secretary
18 November 2002
Dear Brother Pat,
We have been reading about the situation in the Port of Saint John where
employers are attacking the working conditions and pay of dockworkers
in Local 273. As we discussed in Vancouver, the MUA together with other
dockworker unions have determined that an attack on one union is an attack
on all unions.
International shipowners and stevedoring companies have clearly been
developing an international programme and campaign to breakdown the conditions
of dockworkers around the world. The ITF and all international dockworkers
will join resources and campaign to ensure that standards of employment,
working conditions and job security are maintained.
ILA Local 273 is known for its international support and solidarity and
the MUA has determined that in this environment of attack on the union
and its members, our support will always be there.
Please relay this resolution of support to all ILA members in Local 273
from the MUA and its members.
Yours in Unity
Paddy Crumlin
National Secretary
