Letters of Support

SAINT JOHN DISTRICT LABOUR COUNCIL
30-1216 Sand Cove Road,
Saint John, N.B. E2M 5V8

December 1, 2002

Pat Riley
Secretary - Treasurer / Business Agent
ILA Local 273
20 Church Street
Saint John, N.B.
E2M 4P4

Dear Brother Riley,

It is very disappointing to learn that the employers at the port of Saint John are in the process of attacking the working conditions of its workforce. The same working conditions that your members have negotiated and fought over the years are the right of your membership. We are very proud of the fact that your members are more than willing to do what is needed to maintain these working conditions for each other and their families “UNITED WE STAND, DIVIDED WE FALL.”

To this end the 6,000 members of the Saint John & District Labour Council, from Sussex to ST. Stephen, are very willing to do whatever we can to ensure that your workers receive a fair and equitable settlement from your employer. It is with such dedication that you and your members have shown over the years to protect your rights in your current collective agreement, that will see support from all sectors of our society to ensure that you are treated fairly in this set of negotiations.

In Solidarity,

Bill Farren

President, SJ&DLC
